Ultimate Top 10 YA Books

Ultimate Top 10 YA Books

As I near the end of my teen years—in less than three months I’ll have entered my twenties—it’s become apparent to me that more and more people are asking why I still continue to read Young Adult novels. My response is always the same... Young Adult novels are 75% accurate to predicaments people go through on a regular basis. And I’m not referring to the teenage vampire hottie that shares your love of journalling. I’m talking about serious issues like mental illness, death, finding your own voice, coping with loss and dealing with drug and alcohol abuse. Honestly, the list can go on. And it will, because this is a list (in alphabetical order) of YA novels that anyone can . . .

Review of Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Review of Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

“Good citizens, I give you Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children!”   A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desert island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.   I really wanted to love this novel. I truly did. Not only because of the hype it was getting from the YA community but because of the . . .

Review of Day Four by Sarah Lotz

Review of Day Four by Sarah Lotz

Four planes. Three survivors. One message. It seemed like the end of the world... but it wasn't. This, however, just might be… For all of you that read Sarah Lotz’s stunning thriller, The Three, you will have been eagerly anticipating the so called follow-up, Day Four. I was in the same boat (no pun intended) and I wasn’t disappointed. I picked up the chunky hardback version of Day Four on a Friday evening and I had it finished and was rereading sections by Sunday afternoon. What a whirlwind of events and unforgettable characters ranging from all walks of life and from all over the world. As a storyteller, this is one thing that Lotz is able to do flawlessly, she captures the . . .

Review of The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Review of The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

"Sometimes in my tent, late at night, I think I can hear the stars scraping against the sky.”  After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.             Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother—or even . . .

Welcome Victoria!

July 27, 2015

Welcome Victoria!

A month or so ago I put out the call for a talented individual who was looking to spend their summer writing reviews and gaining experience working here at Literature Bitch as an intern/assistant. After literally HUNDREDS of applications I whittled it down and had the pleasure of choosing Victoria Shayne. Victoria is from Texas, USA and is currently a sophomore undergrad at Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire where she majors in Creative Writing. Victoria eat, sleeps, and breaths Young Adult fiction; not only is it the genre she’s read since she was ten, but it’s also the genre she writes in. Victoria first found her love for writing when she was just starting high school and during . . .
